Lakeside Living

the Shore Lodge way

Nestled on the shores of Payette Lake, Shore Lodge offers an unparalleled summer experience.

Fresh mountain air, unbeatable mountain-lake vistas, and endless opportunities for adventure. But what truly sets us apart?

"There are several things that set us apart from other places. The proximity to the lake is very special. You can sit downstairs at The Cutwater on Payette Lake, enjoy eggs Benedict, sip a mimosa, and if the lake is a little whipped up, you'll catch a bit of a Payette splash, as if it’s saying, 'good morning,' since you're literally sitting lakeside.
John Wood, Director of Lodging

Our closeness to Payette Lake, McCall's central summer hub, is serene, immersive, and something no other hotel properties can offer. From enjoying a meal with a view in our outdoor seating area to opening the doors of your Lake Front Suite and stepping directly onto the sand, the lake fuels the energy of summer here. Every day can be a lake day if you choose it to be. And with the lake moments away, the water isn’t just a backdrop to summer; it’s your playground.

Payette Lake

Payette Lake

Whether you're a thrill-seeker, a leisurely cruiser, or somewhere in between, Shore Lodge offers a variety of water activities from our marina that cater to every kind of outdoor enthusiast. For those who wish to explore the lake without bringing their own boat, our high-performance pontoon boats are a popular choice. Available for both captained and self-driven rentals, they're perfect for a full day of cruising to local gems like Davis Beach or North Beach.

Bringing your own boat? We’ve got you covered—literally. Our daily slips and marina services are reserved exclusively for guests. "We'll have their boat covered and waiting for them out there in the marina," notes John. That means you can roll out of bed, grab breakfast, and be carving across the lake before most people have even hit snooze. With wakeboarding, waterskiing, and tubing rentals available, you’ll have everything you need for a high-energy day on the water.

Prefer something a little less high speed and more relaxed? Our single and tandem kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are popular among guests who want to paddle out and soak in the views at their own pace. You can venture to Rotary Park with the kids for a chance to play on the playground alongside Sharlie, McCall's legendary Payette Lake Monster, or make your way to Legacy Park, the centerpiece of downtown McCall.

But it’s not just the direct beach access that makes us a favorite summer destination.

"One of the questions I always ask guests is: How come you chose us? And people continuously say it looked beautiful online, they love nature and the mountains, and Shore Lodge seemed perfect for that," recalled John.

Our unique geographical location allows you to lounge by the water one minute and explore rugged wilderness the next. Hiking, waterskiing, whitewater rafting, fishing, and so much more await, but one of our top recommendations for getting outside? Mountain biking.

If you think mountain biking is just an uphill battle, you must have never tried it in McCall.

"I didn't realize this until I was talking to some of our team members who had come from Colorado. In Colorado, you're either going straight up or straight down. And half of that is really fun, the other half is a slog. But here [McCall], we've got rollers. It's a ride that flows."
John Wood, Director of Lodging

The Bear Basin Trail System, just a short ride from the lodge, is a local favorite. "You can leave from the lodge, connect to lower Bear Basin, and ride right into the trail system," John explains. These trails are a summer transformation of the area's Nordic ski network, offering miles of connected loops, forested climbs, and sweeping descents. "It's really cool, fun riding—lots of variety, and it's all accessible," he adds.

For the more adventurous, Bear Basin connects all the way to Brundage Mountain, where lift-served mountain biking awaits. That's right—ride up, bomb down, and repeat. And if you're still hungry for more, Jug Mountain Ranch and Ponderosa State Park offer even more flowy forest trails to explore, or you can do the Payette Lake 19-mile loop through gravel and flat terrain with rollers.

And if you prefer to swap technical single-track trails for a more scenic, smooth ride, your adventure begins right at our main entrance. Here, you can hop on a complimentary cruiser or tandem bike and coast into town for ice cream, a burger, or an afternoon of ice skating or bumper cars at the Manchester Ice & Events Center to cool off on a hot day.

Most importantly, what makes Shore Lodge special isn't the fact that it's a place to stay.

It's a place where memories are made and cherished for generations.

Shore Lodge in the 1950's

"Another thing really special about the vibe here is that Shore Lodge has that presence and personality in the community. A couple of groups have been coming here since the 50s, and there’s a lot of ownership from our seasonal returning guests. We get to talk to families who are now in their third generation of visiting Shore Lodge, which is fun, and it gives it more of a personable and authentic experience rather than booking another hotel on a lake somewhere,” said John.

These deep-rooted connections foster a sense of community and belonging, making us more than just a hotel or mountain resort but rather a home away from home for those who have been coming for years or even visiting us for the first time. Guests value our hospitality for providing adventure and an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. "I had a gentleman come through the lobby with a bag full of books, and he said, 'I am looking so forward to not being able to do anything but read,'" John recalled.

If your summer to-do list includes lounging lakeside with a good book, soaking in the outdoor pool, or diving into an open-water swim from our marina to Rotary Park, there's no shortage of ways to make the most of your stay. Feeling ambitious? You might even take on the Idaho Mountain Trail Ultra Festival (IMTUF) 100 trail race. Prefer to keep things festive? Catch the fireworks over Payette Lake on the 4th of July. Or change your perspective and watch them from above at Brundage Mountain. From farmers markets to mountain adventures, this season is packed with possibilities. And hey, with all that activity, you'll need to fuel up—good thing we've got you covered there, too.

Forks, Flames, & Flavor

Signature Styles

The one thing our Food & Beverage team has in common, regardless of whether they're a banquet server, bartender, or line cook, is that they are always creating year-round.

So, it's no surprise our culinary team at The Narrows Steakhouse is bringing in the heat this season! After a hiatus, we're bringing back table-side activations.

"We want to ensure The Narrows Steakhouse is fun and exciting while also showcasing some of the ways our meats are prepared while being able to talk about it with our guests,"
Marcus Stewart, Executive Chef

Known for its scenic views, elevated atmosphere, and extensive wine collection, The Narrows Steakhouse is merging fine dining and entertainment. Except it's more than just a fiery show.

Tailored primarily for our larger, family-style cuts of meat, including our 32-ounce Tomahawk or game board consisting of elk, venison, and bison, it allows for a fully educational, immersive, and interactive experience your whole table can enjoy. Watch as your selected cuts of meat are brushed with garlic and demi-glace-infused butter with an herb bouquet before being flambéed in bourbon, cut, and then served on a Himalayan salt block.

"We play with fire and knives all the time. That's kind of what gets us going, gets our blood pumping."
Marcus Stewart, Executive Chef

Accompanied by a flight of our signature sauces, including black pepper relish, wasabi horseradish crème, and garden herb chimichurri, the experience allows you to diversify your palate and try new flavor combinations you might have never considered. "I encourage guests to try all of them! Have a little exploration of the different flavors that we offer. We're here to facilitate an experience that might open your mind," noted Chef Marcus.

It’s safe to say that birthday, anniversary, engagement, or just-because dinners have just gotten elevated. The best part is that these table-side activations are not limited to just the summer. "This is going to be a year-round thing," Chef Marcus confirmed. This means that regardless of the time of year, fine dining and entertainment will always be top of mind at The Narrows Steakhouse, with potential seasonal changes in offerings to keep things fresh and engaging.

As the flames crackle and the kitchen buzzes, the culinary team at The Narrows Steakhouse isn't the only one adding heat this year.

Downstairs at The Cutwater on Payette Lake, we're turning up the temperature with new BBQ offerings! After all, would it really be summer without barbecue?

Our new BBQ Chicken & Bacon Flatbread and BBQ Pork Ribs feature a harmonious blend of sweetness and smokiness. What makes them extra special is that we source our apple and cherry wood from Riggins, Idaho, directly from the property of one of our employees' parents. It's a taste of home with a gourmet twist.

"We play with food all winter so we can get our summertime menus up and rolling. We're always thinking ahead and trying to come up with the next best thing."
Marcus Stewart, Executive Chef

If you're looking for something lighter, we've got you covered there, too. Being located in the Pacific Northwest means we have direct access to some of the freshest catches of fish, and our halibut is no exception. "Our halibut is always one of our top sellers because it's such a beautiful piece of fish," Chef Marcus notes.

As we fire up the dining room with our bold new BBQ menu at The Cutwater on Payette Lake, The Bar is ready to cool things down with an array of vibrant, tantalizing cocktails.

The process of developing our signature seasonal drinks is a genuine passion project, brought to life through the creativity and collaboration of our incredible bartenders. "We have so much fun experimenting and crafting drinks throughout the year," said Cory Strobaugh, Beverage Program Manager. "For summer, we focused on that perfect feeling of just diving into the lake on a hot day and wanting something refreshing, and crafted cocktails that do just that!"

Inspired by his own trip to Jamaica this January, Cory personally challenged the bartender team to create a rum-inspired cocktail that would whisk him back to the sandy beaches of the Caribbean. The challenge? Cory is primarily a bourbon and wine fan, who only has a taste for Jamaican rum. Rising to the occasion, the team crafted the Jamaica Me Crazy. With our sandy beachfront, clear waters, picturesque views, and a Jamaica Me Crazy cocktail in hand, you won't need to book a tropical escape to stay refreshed this summer.

But the true star of the season? The Cucumber Mint Smash! When Kendra, one of our talented bartenders, first presented this drink to our team as a contender for one of the summer cocktails, the entire team was instantly hooked. It's the quintessence of summer: crisp, refreshing, and beautifully floral with a hint of lavender simple syrup.

"We all knew that would be a hit this season."
Cory Strobaugh, Beverage Program Manager

And because we believe everyone should enjoy the ultimate summer duo of cucumber and mint, we also crafted a refreshing mocktail! Infused with cucumber, mint, club soda, honey simple syrup, and a splash of lime, this drink will keep you cool as you bask in the McCall sun.

We love showcasing the best of Idaho's seasonal bounty, and that includes our cocktails. You'll always find local touches in our drinks, like the Huckletini, a Shore Lodge staple, or the Blood Orange Mule made with Volans Reposado Single Barrel. Don’t miss the Sweet Empress, featuring Sweetwater Syrups' vanilla and cardamom syrup; and yes, they taste as good as they sound.

While you're at The Bar indulging in one of our signature cocktails, be sure to order our BLT. "Our Best Limited Treat" from April has earned a permanent spot on our menu for this season. If you didn't get the chance to try it, now's the time to savor our house-cured, applewood-smoked bacon, expertly crafted by our Executive Sous Chef Gerardo.

Dining at Shore Lodge is more than just eating. It’s about exploring. Mix and match dishes, pair them with bold wines, craft cocktails, or local brews, and discover new favorites along the way. Looking for inspiration on what to pair this season? Our team has curated the perfect summer pairings from each dining venue to help you make the most of every bite and sip.

The Perfect Summer Pairings

Tomahawk x Shore Fashioned

When we say we're bringing the heat, we mean it. When your Tomahawk steak is flambéed tableside with a splash of bourbon, it's only fitting to pair it with a Shore Fashioned, crafted with a private barrel pick our team hand-selected from a Knob Creek Distillery on a recent trip to Louisville, Kentucky. "We had an amazing trip to Louisville! I came back with a deeper appreciation for the people, the place, the history, and we got to select two private barrels right from the rickhouse, which was a win, too," shared Cory. "We even created a potential barrel recipe for the future with Maker's Mark," he added. It's the ideal sip to complement your flambéed Tomahawk.

BBQ Pork Ribs x Crianza

Sweet and smoky, our BBQ Pork Ribs are a staple. Pair them with a glass of Crianza, a Spanish Rioja made from Tempranillo grapes. With notes of white pepper, bright cherry, and red plum, its balanced tannins and acidity cut through the richness of the ribs and bring out every layer of flavor.

BLT x pFriem Pilsner

Our house-cured, applewood-smoked bacon is the star of the show in our fan-favorite BLT. To balance its savory depth, we recommend a crisp, refreshing Pilsner from pFriem Brewery. Light and effervescent, it’s the perfect palate cleanser between bites and a great reason to order another round.
